Our story so far....
In 1998, Ground Zero Climbing Gym opened its doors to the Nova Scotia climbing community. Desperate for an indoor climbing facility, climbers from all over the Maritimes soon began flocking to Ground Zero to see what all the fuss was about! Within a year the climbing community had gone from 10 people to over 100. Soon, the word was out and people from all walks of life were climbing at Ground Zero. As each year passes Ground Zero works to bring more and more people into our climbing family. Ground Zero has always been open to people of all levels of ability, from total beginners to full-time professional climbers. You never know who you might bump into on any given day at GZ!
In 2000 we started working with people with disabilities and youth at risk. To date, we have seen indoor climbing help a young boy recover from cancer, turn troubled youths lives around, and give many kids with limited or no mobility a sense of self-worth and trust in others. Ground Zero also does a lot of work with charities. Donations from Ground Zero for various auctions have helped send young students overseas, send a junior girls skipping team to the Nationals, raise money for environmental groups, and supported Nova Scotian athletes at the Canada Games and beyond.
Over the years Ground Zero has hosted a variety of events such as climbing competitions, slide shows, yoga clinics and a popular summer series. Ground Zero is more than just a climbing gym, it is a community.
Built, owned and operated by Sean Therien, Ground Zero Climbing Gym has strived to provide Nova Scotians with the safest possible climbing facility. We use only the most modern equipment, and all safety gear is checked on a monthly basis. With close to 20 years climbing experience under his belt, Sean brings a level of experience to Ground Zero that is unmatched in the region. People are in good hands when they come to Ground Zero and can expect a fun and educational experience.
Our walls range in height from 10ft to 25ft and we have many climbs to choose from. We have a large bouldering cave in addition to the infamous “pod of pain”. We also have a dedicated lead wall for those who like to get on the sharp end! There are climbs for all levels of ability from total novice to full on hardman. We have seen climbers as young as 4 and as old as 84 scale our walls and have a great time.
So don’t wait any longer. Come on in and check out Ground Zero Climbing Gym where gravity never sleeps…..
